The film Stigmata (1999) claims that the Church tried to hide the 20th Century ‘discovery’ of the Gospel of Thomas. This ‘gospel’ was known to (and excluded by) the Third Century Christian theologians Hippolytus and Origen.

The Second Century apologist, Tatian, wrote a combined version of the four Gospels, called the Diatesseron, which was used exclusively in the liturgy in the Church in Syria during the 3rd and 4th Centuries.
